Douay’s eight zones now extend along a 7,000-metre strike, averaging about 250 metres in depth.

Still open in all directions, a new resource extends Aurvista Gold’s (TSXV:AVA) Douay deposit along strike and at depth for a considerable increase in ounces. The estimate replaces an historic 2012 resource for what the company calls “one of the largest undeveloped gold projects in Quebec.”

Using a 0.5 g/t cutoff, the new inferred resource for eight zones totals:

-- 130 million tonnes averaging 1.06 g/t for 4.41 million ounces gold

A 0.7 g/t cutoff brings an inferred total of:

-- 76.72 million tonnes averaging 1.38 g/t for 3.41 million ounces

Those contained numbers compare with 2012 estimates of 235,466 ounces indicated and 2.09 million ounces inferred at a 0.5 g/t cutoff. The new interpretation results from “re-logging, re-description and assaying of previously un-assayed mineralized intervals,” Aurvista stated. “This work showed a greater lateral and vertical continuity of rock units, structural trends and gold mineralization” than the 2012 estimate.

Pointing out that the cutoffs are “consistent with other projects in the region,” president/CEO Jean Lafleur said, “Our improved understanding of mineralizing controls together with an appreciation of the internal gaps in the drilling will allow us to develop an effective and efficient drill campaign to expand and upgrade this significant resource.”

A zone-by-zone breakdown of contained ounces shows:

Douay West

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 566,000 ounces
-- 0.7 g/t cutoff: 524,000 ounces

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 2.73 million ounces

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 96,000 ounces
-- 0.7 g/t cutoff: 83,000 ounces

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 207,000 ounces
-- 0.7 g/t cutoff: 124,000 ounces

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 313,000 ounces
-- 0.7 g/t cutoff: 275,000 ounces

North West

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 192,000 ounces
-- 0.7 g/t cutoff: 161,000 ounces

-- 0.5 g/t cutoff: 74,000 ounces

Aurvista Gold expands Abitibi-region resource to 4.41 million ounces inferred

Highway 109 leads to Aurvista’s Douay project in the Casa Berardi deformation zone of Quebec’s Abitibi belt.

Aurvista completed a preliminary economic assessment for the Douay West zone in 2014. The company plans to begin a new PEA for the project following exploration drilling.

Last week Aurvista released assays from Douay’s current 30,000-metre drill program. In early February the company announced additions to its management team.

Of the 14,520-hectare project, Aurvista holds a 100% interest in 13,310 hectares, a 90% interest in 20 hectares and a 75% interest in the 1,190-hectare North West zone. The NW zone comprises a JV with 25% partner SOQUEM, the mineral exploration branch of the provincial government’s Investissement Québec.
